whenever you come to buy a laptop you get two categories one is a gaming laptop or you can say high performance, and second is thin and light. there is a lot of confusion in between user himself doesn’t know which one is good for him if he should take heavy laptop with high performance or light weight laptop with low performance. today I will clear your doubt in this video. we have kept two laptop side by side, in thin and light we have HP PAVILLION 14 WITH RYZEN 5625 U SERIES PROCESSOR and integrated graphics there is no dedicated GPU and here the gaming/high-performance laptop is with RYZEN 5600H with 1650 this is around 50-60k it is not a comparison of these two laptops. this is a proper category comparison what you should see and choice according to your requirement. did you get it? no? i will explain you. now we should overall differentiate these two laptops in which first thing comes is processor whenever you go to buy a laptop, first you will have an eye on processor.
Which series processor is it, is it ryzen or intel, it is 5 or 7 or 9. it happens with you? the gaming laptop we have in that we get H-series processor, H series or HX series is a high performance series whereas in thin and light laptop we get G series that is intel processors or U-series, these series are a little low powered and obviously doesn’t give much performance now for example see their processors, 5600H is a 6-CORE and 12-THREADS and 5625U this is also the 6-CORE 12-THREADS processor. second, our GPU in this GPU is integrated GPU which is called AMD RADEON you might know. it is low-powered and is inserted with processor, and can’t do any high-end task. then comes this one, in this also there is IGPU to render display in some gaming laptop after that MUX switch and other many complications are there I won’t go any other further in detail. one comes here in a dedicated GPU, Where comes AMD RADEON GRAPHICS OR NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX that dedicated GPU works for both productivity and gaming. then power consumption! it is obvious with thick gaming laptops comes thick bricks that means their chargers 160-170 watt is normal and 200-250-300 WATT battery also comes. whereas with thin and light laptops with them comes a really small adapters 65 watt 90 watt. max to max 120 watt not more than that. if they are also not available then they can be charged by your mobile type-c charger. although gaming one also gets charged but their power delivery is up to 100 watts for that you need a big charger. that is subjective and vary laptop to laptop, and biggest pressure to your shoulder is the laptop’s weight, a gaming laptop is around 2-3kgs like 3kgs are really high performance are 5 lakh laptop that we have already reviewed, normally we get 2-2.5 kgs laptop.
But the thin and light are 800 grams to up to 1.5kgs not more than that. some are thin and light that has dual fans and a good processor that too max to 1.8kgs. so these thin and light laptop’s won’t apply pressure on your shoulders. and for carrying, you can practically carry both go it is not like they won’t come in your bagpack. but gaming laptop obviously it’s own is really heavy and then its brick, I mean its charger that is also really heavy, with thin and light it is not like that you can take type-c charger of your phone from which you can charge both laptop and phone plus your laptop is so lightweight it will be more convenient. and main use case scenarios, in gaming laptop comes high-graphics work high-level coding, 3D rendering task and gaming. if we come to thin and light we can do basic editing. you can’t do any graphics-intensive work, you can do basic work flow like ms office and all that is day to day task multi-tasking is easily possible to this it is limited but obviously all that work is possible in this. because this is already really powerful you might be thinking why am i telling you things that you already know. there are many people other than you who don’t know. now the main thing comes which one to buy? if you work at an office, if you are a teacher or even you are a student and you need to do day-to-day tasks. multi-tasking, work on ms office, watch youtube or some movies, want to do basic coding and listen to music. thin and light is the option for you. but if from same category you have extra needs like person going to office might play games too and also do graphic intensive work or any one from you can be creator or person going to college can also do gaming with coding and can also do streaming with gaming. then for them the gaming laptops are made. that are our high-performance laptops, gaming laptop is a marketing term. here you get a dedicated GPU, H series processor that can draw more power.
So because of this all this work can be done smoothly. here comes the biggest catch battery backup. in gaming laptop also you can get 70-80 watt/hr battery, but it won’t give that much backup that can be given by 50 watt/hr battery of thin and light laptop. biggest reason to this is processor like this laptop has 5625 U processor this maximum draws 25 watt power. whereas this with 5600H it draws 45 watt power obviously, it will draw more power and consume more battery. and you will get a lesser battery backup. common sense. as the different laptops will be there if they are gaming laptop or thin and light in all there will a change in processor, in nowadays 70-80 or 100 watts power drawing laptops. that we have reviewed intel 12th generation and AMD laptops. there we get high performance and more heat, and less battery backup. if battery backup really important for you then gaming laptop is not for you. then comes RAM and STORAGE, it is really basic for storage all the laptops now a days comes with SSD. after that, if we talk about RAM, here is a really small catch in the thin and light laptops it has soldered RAM in some of them have dual channel soldered if they are 16GB RAM then you cannot upgrade it for lifetime and in some, it is like one is soldered and the other is removable and one can be upgraded. and in some, you can upgrade both of them, before buying a laptop do check for upgrade options. if there is written LPDDR RAM then it is a soldered RAM if there is written only RAM or SODIMM it is a removable RAM. so you need to take care of it. other than that we tell upgradation option in our video, subscribe our channel if you came for the first time and here are the gaming laptops, there are never soldered RAM they have proper removable RAM and have more upgradation options, from 32 GB to 64GB it can be upgraded. that too varies from laptop to laptop, like this laptop maximum upgrades to 16GB or to 32 GB. after that your laptop’s that part, that you will see the most, I mean laptop’s display. here there is a lot of confusion regarding display because in both the category you get good and bad displays.
There is a catch in display of first of all COLOR GAMUT and second REFRESH RATE. the resolution you might clearly know 1080p, 1440p 2.8k and we recently reviewed 3.2 K display of HP SPECTRE so the scene is in gaming laptops you get basic screen till 1 lakh. that is 45% NTSC and 1080p but you get a nice refresh rate you can see this laptop has a 144 Hz Refresh rate this is a 55-56k laptop if you go for thin and light then till 50-60-80k you get a 60 Hz of refresh rate but there we sometimes get OLED options, better IPS options and better resolution options like recently we reviewed VIVOBOOK, In which we got 2.8k OLED 90Hz display. that was a 70k laptop but it is thin and light so we cannot do anything else in that. so somewhere the performance is good and somewhere the display is good. what is your choice and what you want to do according to that you buying choice matters if you want performance and have great display and RAM is also good then you have to spend alot. your budget will go up to 1 to 1.5 lakh, and laptop also get heavy. then comes the secondary things that i am not covering in this video. like the trackpad, keyboard, ports all that is subjective and if you will buy from somewhere you can physically check or you will get information online or you can know by the reviews, that is all on you it won’t matter on the performance. nor it will affect the end-user experience, although you can get more FPS from RGB. and in external factor webcam also plays a great role work from home is going on people are doing meeting from laptop. if i tell you from gaming laptop then ROG series doesn’t include webcam. other than that almost all have webcams, and in thin and light series all of them have webcams. in some you get 720p or 1080p that is subjective if you go for buying it you can check it out which one is better for you. this same case is with speakers also in some you have 2 watt in some 2.5 watts in some sound system is by some other companies in some there is Bang & Olufsen and in some JBL in some there is HARMAN. these are the review things we can’t go that deep as it will increase the length of the video so now if you see all the important things are covered up. that almost 90% of you people already know now main comes the performance part.
Obviously gaming laptop have high performance but in performance also there is a little catch in both we ran CINEBENCH R23 test. scores are in front of you obviously, gaming laptops’ scores are more. and people who have doubt what is CINEBENCH basically, it is a BENCHMARK test whose scores are more then it is better. we show this in our all videos, if you buy any windows laptop then you should compare their CPU and GPU benchmark scores the when with more scores is the better one in performing if it is basic task or any kind of task and the main thing is gaming test, my audience will be waiting for the gaming results. so in gaming i firstly tested FORZA HORIZON 5 and set same settings in both of them. like medium settings and resolution, we kept 1080p now side by side you can get the difference between a gaming laptop and a thin and light laptop. here you can see the CPU’s tab and its wattage tab wattage is going a little more than U series even clock speed also has a huge difference and here at the top GPU tab that is AMD RADEON it is on-board graphics that is on the left side also called IGPU on the right side is the dedicated GPU, see its graphics memory almost 2.5Gb is consumed and see its wattage is 40-45 watt power is been drawn according to that you can see there is a lot of difference in frame rate where is 25 FPS from 60-70 FPS.
Then i thought let’s test GTA-5 also that too we tested on 1080p and graphics setting were same according to this game you can see the CPU wattage is going so high like it is above 30 watt in gaming laptop and in frame rate also you can see 30-40 FPS is coming in thin and light and 100 FPS in gaming and there is also a difference in temperature, even after so low wattage and clock speed its temperature is around 80-82 degrees because chassis is thin of thin and light laptop and it has a single fan, so they don’t get cool fast. similarly, see in the gaming laptop even after so much wattage and clock speed our temperatures are around 80-82 degrees, and obviously, the room temperature was same while testing so there is a big difference in gaming, now you might know that gaming laptops have far more better performance than thin and light.
Now you can take it as gaming or productivity because CPU and GPU will be used according to it so this was the difference between these two categories and here there is no need of conclusion because from starting I already gave you clarity who should take thin and light? Who should take a gaming laptop? this was not the difference between these two laptops rather it was for these two categories even if the category is of 50k, 1lac or 2 lac.
